how old do you have to be to play? I have a `14 year old daughter that is interested in playing open gym volleyball.
I can’t say for sure. Many of the open gyms have different age requirements, and I haven’t played at this one. I just checked the city’s website and the Friday night open gym is just listed as “Adult Open Play Volleyball 6:30-9:45pm”. It doesn’t list age requirements. Your best bet is to call the city at the above number.
i’ve played on several open gyms at many different places from l.a. – oc and a few in between but the common thing is, age doesn’t matter. i’ve seen and played against ppl as young as 14 (though not as many of them playing as the 16 yr olds.) from what i’ve seen during sign-in, if there actually is one where an actual employee is there to check everyone’s i.d., no one is really there to enforce age limits. the only one i know of that checks i.d is in brea community center (not sure of the correct name) but i don’t think they even enforce the age limit at all since there were a group of 4-6 ppl who were 14 and 15yr olds who often played there. the only reason they checked i.d was to verify if the ppl were residents so they pay the correct amount. if you’re turlly concern then just go with your daughter and find out for yourself. don’t say or ask anything. just go and pay if you’re asked to and if not then it’s just a waiting list so everyone knows who’s playing next.
